Meet Rubens for a 1:1 Strategy Session

Rubens graduated in Law from Faculdades Metropolinas Unidas and specialized in Corporate Law (LL.M. - Master of Laws) from INSPER and also in Law and Economics in Business from Centro de Estudos de Direito Econômico e Social – CEDES.

Tilkian is a lawyer in Brazil and Portugal. He started his legal career in 1998 as a conciliator at the Santo Amaro Regional Courthouse in São Paulo, as well as a volunteer member of the team of the São Paulo State Attorney’s Office, where he provided services to needy people in the areas of civil and family law, solving hundreds of cases through settlement, avoiding Court Proceedings.

He subsequently worked at renowned law firms in Brazil, such as Manuel Alceu Affonso Ferreira Advogados (1998-1999) and Wald Advogados Associados (2002-2005). For two years (2000-2001) worked in the United States (Miami, FL) at the office of Bander, Fox-Isicoff & Associates in Miami, Florida, under the supervision of Michael Bander, Tammy Fox-Isicoff, Julie Ferguson and Donna Scarlatelli.

In 2005, back in São Paulo, Brazil, he founded his own Law Firm, and today is a partner at Decoussau Tilkian Advogados (www.dtlaw.com.br), with headquarters in São Paulo and legal practice throughout the country.

The firm is active in the following practice areas: Strategic Civil Law and Arbitration; Administrative Law; Corporate and Contractual Law; Reorganization and Bankruptcy Law; Labor Law; Digital Rights; Entertainment and Image Law; and Sports Law.

Rubens is an experienced lawyer with emphasis in the litigation area, especially in complex lawsuits involving corporate, civil and capital market disputes, violation of rights by the print and digital media, as well as disputes in the area of administrative law, notably involving airport and highway concessions. Rubens is also active in corporate law, particularly mergers and acquisitions, and preparation and negotiation of contracts involving national and international companies.

He has been a member of the São Paulo State Chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB/SP) since 2006, and on October 1, 2010, became Vice-chairman of the Permanent Commission on the Bar Examination of the OAB/SP, a position he held until December 2015. Over the years he has given numerous presentations at law schools in the state of São Paulo, defending the values of the legal profession and the importance of lawyers in preserving democracy and due state of law. He also served as vice-chairman of the Special Committee on Mediation of the OAB/SP for two years.

Rubens was named a member of the São Paulo Institute of Lawyers (IASP) and for four years he was Legal Counsel of the Itaim-Bibi Community Safety Board in the city of São Paulo.

He is a specialist in mediation and negotiation, and since 1998 has dedicated himself to the area. Over the years, he has extensively studied interpersonal conflicts and has performed important work in private and judicial mediation, specifically involving Corporate, Family, Consumer, Labor and Canonic law.

Rubens has been chosen to act as mediator by most of the renowned law firms and the courts.

He is a certified Practitioner of Neurolinguistic Programming (PNL) and has the title of Master Coach with certification from the International Association of Coaching. He also has a credential as a Behavioral Analyst from Inscape Publishing, Inc.

In 2015, he founded Vertus Conflict Solutions (Instituto Vertus de Mediação e Resolução de Conflitos), the first specialized private mediation chamber approved by the judiciary in the country, with the aim of contributing to society through alternative dispute resolutions. The company also provides training and certification for personal and professional development.

In November 2016, Rubens published the book ”Comentários à Lei de Mediação”, with a preface by the president of the São Paulo State Court of Appeals, Paulo Dimas Mascaretti, presentation by retired appellate judge José Roberto Neves Amorim and a special article by the general coordinator of the Judicial Dispute Resolution Center (CEJUSC) of São Paulo, Ricardo Pereira Júnior.

He also served as a member of the Boards of Directors at Sugoi S.A. (construction company) and Manufatura de Brinquedos Estrela, the largest toys manufactory in Brazil.

By the year 2022, Rubens has already trained and certified more than 550 mediators and conflict managers and has more than 80,000 agreements signed in conflict mediation, private and judicial, involving the most diverse parties and areas of law.

In 2022/2023, Rubens’ Law Firm was awarded as one of the Most Prestigious Law Firm in Brazil. In 2023, Rubens Tilkian was awarded as a top 6 lawyers in the country, for his services provided in the banking and financial areas.

Rubens, through his career as a Lawyer and Professional Mediator was invited to write articles in the field and be part of the Top Lawyers of Brazil in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, a very selected yearbook in the field.

In December 2023, Rubens received the Ramos de Azevedo Diploma Award, one of the highest awards granted by the Justice of the State of São Paulo, for those who have rendered relevant and significant services to the justice system. Rubens was the only lawyer to receive such an award.

Rubens is a qualified mediator in the state of Florida, USA, specializing in complex mediations in County and Circuit courts, covering areas such as family law, corporate law, consumer law, real estate law, and others.

In 2023, Rubens, as a hobby and motivated by his passion, founded a new project in Brazil, the company One Racing Academy, a unique go-kart and racing car driver academy, involving the most prestigious professional racing car drivers in Brazil and in the world, some of them former Formula 1, Formula Indy and Nascar drivers.
